Joyeuses Pâques

We have just returned from a ten day Easter break at Frelon Cottage.

This is the first time we have stayed there as a family and it be a nearly complete house. Last summer was two complete bedrooms and a functioning kitchen within a building site.

This time, all rooms are decorated, all rooms have completed new floors, all rooms are furnished and only the kitchen needs final finishing and even this is just the second coat of paint to two of the walls and installing the light fitting.

The only downside of this visit was (as suspected from previous attempts) the fire in the kitchen was does not draw sufficiently and the room fills with smoke. We had been told that once the chimney warms up it would function, but, after three hours with all doors and windows open we gave up, let the fire die and reverted to the electric heaters brought for exactly this event. After a few days the weather warmed greatly and even these were not required.

Also on this trip I was expecting two pallets of limestone paving to build the terraces in the summer. However, they did not turn up as the French driver could not find us and then would not deliver without a French telephone number to call, which we did not have. I now have my neighbour’s number but despite extending our stay for an extra day they did not turn up. Luckily they are not needed until late June so maybe they will arrive next time!

By our summer holiday, I will have been down twice more, the joiner will have fitted the front door and new shutters so we will have a completed holiday home. We may even have a new terrace if the stone arrives by then!
