The last visit of the year has come to an end and I am back in a very autumnal Blighty.
This trip has been a great success and all that was planned was achieved. Tiling of the salon floor, decoration of the kitchen and preparation of the salon ceiling, wall tiles in the kitchen and planting of the garden areas.
Other little bonuses included completing the glazing of the upstairs bathroom door, thus sealing the bedrooms completely and putting a breathable roofing membrane in the loft. This will stop any dust blowing into the bedrooms from the attic and prevent any wind blown water from seeping into the loft floorboards.
As I now have the longest period away from Frelon Cottage, due to Christmas, and I have started to look back on what has been achieved. I have made just nine visits to France to work on the house including two holidays and have had Sam working with me for twenty five of those days.
In this time we have replastered all rooms, fitted a shower room, repaired the roof, completely decorated upstairs including renovating two old doors and two of the original windows. Now on the downstairs, we are one visit from completing the Salon and the Kitchen. This will leave only the front door to be replaced.
Outside we have cleared and laid the courtyard in limestone, trenched for all new foul drainage, created raised tree beds and other planting areas, felled two trees and planted three new ornamental Mulberries.
I cannot take credit for the replumbing and rewiring of the house but we did the first fix of some of each, leaving the professionals to complete.
All in all a very productive eighteen months and progress well ahead of the scheduled three years to completion.
